goal of this website

Well informed, you'll get further faster

The motivation behind this website is to inform newcomers and guide them through this world. As a director, producer and casting agent, I, Kris De Meester, have many years of experience in the film and commercial industry under my belt. The knowledge and insights I've accumulated I wish to share with you here.

I started my career in 1990, taking on different roles with many of the film industry’s finest. Over the decades, I've teamed up with numerous award-winning directors. Such included big names like Lars von Trier, Terence Davies, Thomas Vinterberg, Timo Vuorensola, Wolfgang Becker, Philippe Grandrieux, and Koen Mortier. I've directed and wrote two of my own feature films, which garnered a good amount of awards on the international film festival scene. At the same time, I also took on roles as a casting director in a number of films. My repertoire includes titles such as "A Quiet Passion", "Ex Drummer", "Ich und Kaminski" and "Un Lac". I was also the casting director for Lars Von Trier's "Nymphomaniac" Volumes I & II, both of which have been featured on Netflix. Meanwhile, as a producer, I have worked on dozens of award-winning independent films to date. Such include "Little Wing", "Vessels", "Share with me Your Brightest Colors", "Menthol", and "All About the Feathers". In recent years, I joined Hal Hartley as an executive producer in the production of the feature film “Where to Land” that has yet to be released. Finally, I've run a casting agency for over 25 years, giving me a good understanding of the ins and outs of this industry.

casting process

Not everyone gets chosen for the job

You see yourself as the best ambassador for a certain brand. And your friends have been telling you for so long how charming your look is, compared to this or that diva always making commercials for that one luxury brand.

So you sign up at a casting agency. Great, but having the right looks and sizes doesn't always cut it. You need that right attitude and extra pizzazz, flair and elegance. Eventually you get invited to a casting and the director is full of praise about you. But in the end you don't get the role, because the director is not the decision-maker. How does this work exactly?
